We have added more golf courses to our Golf Report, more airports to our Airport Forecast, more regions to our Marine Forecast and more schools to our SchoolDay Forecast.
All these additions have made our weather information more robust and deep but at the same time it has impacted some of our customers. Some web users and email subscribers have seen changes in their bookmarks and email products. In these cases, customers have been notified of these changes.
Over the next few weeks we will be adding more Canadian, US and International cities to our already impressive list. As part of this initiative we have reviewed the cities we already list to see if they conform to our standards of accuracy and reliability.
On rare occasion, we have had to remove locations because the weather data is either unreliable or inaccurate. In such cases, we notify email subscribers of the change or loss of service.
Improved Current Weather Observations...
A major initiative about to be launched is the addition of more observation stations and an overall improvement in Current Weather observation data.
X number of observation stations will be added for Canadian cities improving the overall quality of weather information. The addition of more observation stations allows us to ensure that customers get the closest observation to their location.
As part of this initiative we are also reviewing all Canadian cities to ensure their Current Weather observations are coming for the closest observation station.
These changes will improve the weather information on all our platforms - TV, Web and Mobile. Once these changes are in place, some Web and Mobile customers may see differences on their city or activity forecast pages. Specifically, some cities will no longer display a Sky Condition icon as part of their Current Weather information.
Sky Conditions information comes from manned weather stations where an individual observes the sky conditions and manually enters the observations. Not all weather stations are manned; in fact, the majority are not. Typically, airport weather stations are manned although a densely populated area can have several unmanned stations.
As a result of the recent review of Canadian cities, some cities will lose their Sky Conditions icon as the closest and most accurate weather station is unmanned. We decided that accurate and local weather information was more important than Sky Conditions. We hope you agree.
Not only will the web and mobile sites be affected but all desktop and weather buttons. These changes will significantly improve the quality of the Current Weather observations. But we are aware that for some the Sky Condition icon will be missed.
More to Come...
Above are just a few of out recent improvements. You can expect more improvements to our weather information over the coming months as we add more parks to our Parks Report and more attractions to our Attractions Forecast. Of course, should any of these changes impact your service we will inform you in advance.
