Police have yet to determine the whereabouts of a six year-old boy who fell through the ice Monday in the community of Upton, east of Montreal.
The boy appears to have vanished without a trace - with the exception of a boot that was discovered near the water's edge. Fire officials have been drilling holes into the ice to search for signs of the child, and divers have been deployed into the area.
The boy is said to have disappeared while playing near the water on Monday. The boy's brother, a friend, and the friend's golden retriever tried to save the child from being pulled away by the strong current.
Both the dog and the boy vanished during the accident. Residents along the river are being asked to report any information that will help them locate the child.
