Safe burning rules enable residents to burn safely and assume responsibility should a fire escape and cause damage.
The Ministry of Natural Resources suggests composting any woody debris or grass, but if a burn is necessary, Ontarians must follow the regulations outlined in the Forest Fires Prevention Act. The regulations are in place from April 1 to October 31 every year.
Some communities are declared as Restricted Fire Zones, where no open burning is permitted under any circumstances.
