Last week, the CBC's Rick Mercer, of the Rick Mercer Report, paid a visit to The Weather Network's Oakville, Ontario studios, hoping to learn more about what it takes to broadcast Canada's national weather forecast.
“For over 22 years, Canadians from coast to coast to coast have been obsessed not just with the weather, but with what the people at The Weather Network are saying about the weather,” Mercer told his audience on the show, which aired January 25. “Today, I join the most distinguished fraternity in broadcasting. I become, a TV weatherman.”
Mercer spent the day shadowing The Weather Network's Chris St. Clair, who gave him some tips on how to present using a green screen.
“It's very important to know where you're pointing,” explained St. Clair. “You need to point with a certain sense of authority.”
Mercer wasn't so sure he had what it took to do the job right. “Are you sure [I can't] just put on a harness and you could dangle me off something?” he asked St. Clair.
