It's one of those things you almost have to see to believe.
Huge white snowflakes came tumbling from the sky over Rome earlier today, and quickly turned the city into a Winter Wonderland.
'We think it's very exciting,' said Margaret Jones, a tourist visiting from Britain. 'I have been taking pictures of my husband in front of the Colosseum because I thought nobody would believe me if I told them it was snowing in Rome today.'
Snow is a rarity in the Italian capital. It once snowed on the outskirts of the city back in 2005, and it snowed on and off for a couple of days in 1986.
While thousands of students took the day off school to play in the snow, many commuters weren't as lucky. Traffic was brought to a standstill as drivers tried to cope with the conditions -- many of them still on scooters.
Still, Rome residents are being advised to enjoy the conditions while they can today. The snow is expected to melt as temperatures rise this weekend.
