April 11, 2010 — 10 people have been killed when a helicopter was overtaken by an avalanche on Saturday. Here's Chris St. Clair with the international watch.
The helicopter was hit by the avalanche after it had landed on the mountain.
Eight people were rescued, including seven tourists and one crew member and airlifted to the local airport and then transferred to ambulances and taken to hospital.
Emergency teams are still at the site and rescue efforts continue. Not only are doctors on site, but dog-teams are there searching for people that may still be trapped under the avalanche.
The Emergency Ministry said three of the dead were Russians and one was German. Rescuers were still looking for two other Russians and four Germans according to officials.
It's been reported that two crew members died in the avalanche.
