Humidex Advisory for Southern Ontario & Quebec

Laurissa Anyas-Weiss, content producer

August 18, 2009 — Environment Canada has continued its Humidex Advisory for parts of Southern Ontario and Quebec.

The area from Brockville east to Quebec City is still under the Advisory.

The hot and humid air mass that has been sitting over Southern Ontario & Quebec for the past few days will continue to cause elevated levels of air pollution and humidity.

The Golden Horseshoe and the GTA were dropped from EC's Advisories but will still experience high humidity today.

Isolated thunderstorms are expected across Southern Ontario today and into the evening ahead of a cold front moving through the area. There is a risk that these storms could bring torrential downpours and strong winds.

During periods of high humidity heavy outdoor activities may cause respiratory symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath.

People with heart or lung disease including asthma may experience a worsening of their condition.

To reduce pollution avoid driving or using gas powdered equipment such as lawn mowers, etc.
