Strong Winds for Ontario

Laurissa Anyas-Weiss, content producer

March 9, 2009 — A major system from the US is on its way through Ontario leaving the area by mid-afternoon. Strong winds and icy temperatures will follow behind as an Arctic high pressure system moves in.

Dangerous driving conditions will continue throughout the day for Northern Ontario as blowing snow and strong winds reduce visibility significantly.

For Southern Ontario, winds will be strong all day gusting up to 90km/h locally. Winds will start to ease off in the afternoon leaving the overnight period calm but very cold.

The cold front will move out Thursday heading East towards Atlantic Canada. Temperatures will start to return to seasonal norms by Friday.

Wind warnings are currently in effect across Ontario.
