January 20, 2011 — Snow was falling from the sky in places like Abbotsford, Surrey and Vancouver Thursday morning.
People living on the south coast of BC got a bit of a surprise Thursday morning: snowfall.
A low pressure system had been rolling in off the Pacific, bringing a cold rain to the province. In the morning hours, however, that precipitation switched over to snow.
“Temperatures were right on the border of freezing, and as of this morning we thought they might stay on the warmer side,” says Patrick Cool, a meteorologist at The Weather Network. “But sometimes, Mother Nature has her own ideas. All it took was that slight dip in temperatures for snow to start falling.”
The snow has been wet in Metro Vancouver, but it has been sticking to the ground in parts of Surrey and the Fraser Valley.
