Messy Friday Morning Commute

January 7, 2010 — A system moving across the northern US will bring snow and windy conditions to Southwestern Ontario Thursday overnight into Friday.

“The snow will begin in Southwestern Ontario by the late afternoon hitting the GTA in the evening. The system snow could reach as far east as Kingston. ”

Strong winds will accompany this system with gusts up to 25km/h. Temperatures will also drop as the system goes through increasing the risk of blowing snow and icy road conditions for the Friday morning commute.

Snow accumulations will be highest in Southwestern Ontario with 10-15 cm possible around Windsor and closer to 10 cm in the London to Niagara Falls area. The GTA and eastward will see only trace amounts 1-5 cm.

Friday Morning Commute
Commuters in Southwestern Ontario will see the worst conditions with heavier snowfall amounts and blowing snow resulting in reduced visibility. Icy road conditions are possible. For areas to the northeast including the GTA, the drive in could be slowed by blowing snow and reduced visibility. Give yourself a little extra time Friday morning.

The system will move out Friday leaving clear conditions and cold temperatures for Saturday before warming up slightly on Sunday.
