Ottawa florist Minoo Banaei told The Weather Network she was only able to obtain one small bag of mistletoe this year, and even then, it was in rough shape.
I called a few suppliers but they just didn't have it this year because of the shortage, she said. We bought it because we love to have variety for our customers ... but it was expensive and not in perfect condition.
To disguise the less-than-ideal condition of the plant and keep it affordable, Banaei attached pieces of mistletoe to star-shaped ornaments, which quickly sold out.
Her customers came away happy in the end, but Banaei is hoping for better weather next growing season.
