Top 10 videos of the week: September 2

September 9, 2011 — It's time for our weekly recap of the best videos from the past seven days. Take a look at the top ten videos that made the cut.

We get a lot of footage each week here at The Weather Network, so we decided to share our favourites with you. Here are the weather videos that had people talking in Canada and around the world this week.

  • #10 -- Hua-hin, Thailand. Elephant polo in Thailand was first launched in 2001. The elephants are not allowed to lie in front of the goal posts or use their trunks to catch the ball. Proceeds from the event will go to organizations dealing with elephant welfare in Thailand.
  • #9-- Welland, ON. The Labour Day long weekend started out hot and humid in southern Ontario. Sally and Abby kept cool by heading to the kiddie pool. Thanks to Colleen for sending in this video.
  • #8 – St. Jacobs, ON. All that hot humid air was hit by a cold front and that of course triggered thunderstorms. Environment Canada confirmed that it was straight line winds that caused all of this damage in St. Jacobs.
  • #7 – Niagara Falls, ON. Jason was kept awake by those storms over the weekend too. Check out this impressive lightning bolt he caught on video. Thanks for staying safe.
  • #6 – 6. Drummondville, QC. Claude must have looked out the window and thought better of venturing out. Instead, he picked up his camera to show us the heavy rain and strong winds blowing down the street.
  • #5 -- Oakville, ON. It’s taken a while, but Kevin Yarde, our hardy outdoor reporter on the Morning Show did a little air guitar with his umbrella as he waited for some showers outside our studio this week.
  • #4 -- New York, NY. Tennis stars might have been playing air guitar in their change rooms this week while they waited for the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee to move on so they could get to playing at the US Open.
  • #3 -- Lafource Parish, Louisiana. Heavy rain and strong winds battered LaFource Parish in southern Louisiana as Tropical Storm Lee crawled its way along the Gulf Coast over the weekend.
  • #2 – Mexico City, Mexico. Some 2,000 families in the Mexico City neighbourhood of Cuautitlan evacuated their homes on Tuesday after torrential rainfall sparked massive flooding, leaving homes and vehicles completely submerged.
  • #1 -- Western Japan. Incredible damage from a storm that slammed into Japan this week. While the storm was not as powerful as a typhoon, it lingered for days over the same region dumping record rain on central and western Japan, in some places half their usual annual rainfall fell in a 48-hour period.

Those are videos ten through one for this week. Don't forget to tune in to The Weather Network on TV every Friday morning for our weekly roundup of the top weather videos of the week.
