Top 10 videos of the week: August 5

August 5, 2011 — It's time for our weekly recap of the best videos from the past seven days. Take a look at the top ten videos that made the cut.

We get a lot of footage each week here at The Weather Network, so we decided to share our favourites with you. Here are the weather videos that had people talking in Canada and around the world this week.

  • #10 -- Vancouver, BC. As teams from Spain, China and Canada compete for pyrotechnic glory, weather hasn’t been an issue for the Celebration of Light fireworks competition in Vancouver, BC.
  • #9-- Foping, China. Torrential rains are being blamed for causing a huge sink hole on a major highway near a popular tourist area in Southwestern China. The whole was 15 metres long and 8 metres deep.
  • #8 – London, England As penguins, bearded pigs and gorillas try to find ways to escape the heat in London, England, the Top 10 wouldn’t be complete without the cute animals.
  • #7 – Near Assiniboia, Sask. The Prairies had another week of hail. Gwen caught it as it was making big splashes in puddles that heavy rain left behind near Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.
  • #6 – Lower Sackville, NS. Laura from Lower Sackville showed us that the Maritimes weren’t immune to active weather this week too. Strong storms cut power and caused delays at Halifax International Airport.
  • #5 -- Mount Uniacke, NS. Joanne set up her high speed camera in hopes of capturing the storm and she got an excellent lightning shot. Stormline callers, by the dozens, reported the intensity of the recent storms.
  • #4 -- Lower Sackville, NS. Darrin must have thought the storm in Lower Sackville was over when he saw a rainbow. But if you wait a few moments, you realize that it wasn’t quite over. Check out the lightning that snakes across it.
  • #3 -- Near Calgary, Alta. Here’s a great video shot by George who captured hail and heavy rain near Calgary.
  • #2 – Kentville, NS. A big crack of thunder gave this viewer quite the jolt. That’s why we advise to shoot a video when it’s safe.
  • #1 -- Eastern Russia. Here’s something you don’t see every day. A tornado in Russia near the Chinese border was on the ground for about 13 minutes and caused over 3 million dollars in damage.

Those are videos ten through one for this week. Don't forget to tune in to The Weather Network on TV every Friday morning for our weekly roundup of the top weather videos of the week.
