Top 10 videos of the week: September 16

September 16, 2011 — It's time for our weekly recap of the best videos from the past seven days. Take a look at the top ten videos that made the cut.

We get a lot of footage each week here at The Weather Network, so we decided to share our favourites with you. Here are the weather videos that had people talking in Canada and around the world this week.

  • #10 -- Melbourne, Australia. What’s a top 10 without some cute animal video? Jelani the Giraffe stands at over 4 metres and makes the most of his height to take in the sights on his trip from a zoo in New Zealand to one in Australia.
  • #9-- Hamilton, ON. From a tall animal to a tall ship. The Pride of Baltimore II – a replica of an early 1800s schooner arrived at Pier 8 in Hamilton to promote the upcoming bicentennial of the War of 1812.
  • #8 – Brandon, MB. Rae caught an awful lot of dust swirling round Brandon, Manitoba on Tuesday. Strong winds also caused damage in Winnipeg.
  • #7 – Balmertown, ON. Valerie captured a sight many people just aren’t ready for. Skiers might be happy with the snow falling in Balmertown, Ontario, but the puppy didn’t look too enthused.
  • #6 –Whistler, BC. Most people think of Whistler Mountain as a ski destination, but the lack of snow and great temperatures makes for great biking and hiking.
  • #5 -- Toronto, ON. Much of southern Ontario was looking hazy on Tuesday. A forest fire burning for almost a month in Minnesota brought an acrid smell, but made for a pretty amazing sunset.
  • #4 --Soma City, Japan. Already it’s been over six months since the massive earthquake and tsunami devastated Japan. Almost 1000 paper lanterns were released in memory of those who had lost their lives in Soma City.
  • #3 -- Kanata, ON. Rain and hail blew through eastern Ontario and southern Quebec Tuesday afternoon. Check out Bart’s video of the heavy rain and strong winds.
  • #2 – Near Bernburg, Germany. Severe storms over Germany left roads flooded and travellers stranded on Sunday. Water and sludge brought traffic to a standstill on a highway near Bernburg, Germany. A number of drivers were so surprised by the floods that they had to climb onto the roof of their vehicles.
  • #1 -- Rigaud, QC. Incredible video coming out of Quebec this week. It looks like one of our viewers set up a tripod to capture the storm and caught one of the best lightning strikes we’ve ever seen. Always remember to stay safe and upload your videos to

Those are videos ten through one for this week. Don't forget to tune in to The Weather Network on TV every Friday morning for our weekly roundup of the top weather videos of the week.
