Top 10 videos of the week: September 23

September 23, 2011 — It's time for our weekly recap of the best videos from the past seven days. Take a look at the top ten videos that made the cut.

We get a lot of footage each week here at The Weather Network, so we decided to share our favourites with you. Here are the weather videos that had people talking in Canada and around the world this week.

  • #10 -- Port Moody, BC. Our quest for cute animals in the Top 10 was answered by BC camera operator Caaleb Trott. Check out this cute seal at Rocky Point Park in Port Moody Monday afternoon.
  • #9-- Hamilton, ON. On the other side of the country, Maritime camera operator Jeremy Chipper captured the sunny skies and the student cadets taking off in their gliders.
  • #8 – Toronto, ON. “Big Eyes” were on the skies too in southern Ontario. Windfest, Toronto’s largest kite festival, raises awareness of wind energy.
  • #7 – Logy Bay, NL. What do your kids do when school gets let out early due to a hurricane? Well in Logy Bay, NL, Barry’s kids do this.
  • #6 – Munich, Germany. It’s that time of year again in Munich. The keg was tapped for the 178th time to kick off Oktoberfest. Up to 6 million people are expected to show up at the 17 day event.
  • #5 -- Luera, Australia. Fires erupted in the iconic Blue Mountains, just west of Sydney, Australia. High winds caused flames to suddenly leap up, at one stage threatening houses near the tourist town of Leura.
  • #4 --Galingang Village, Tibet. A 6.8 magnitude earthquake in India on Sunday affected other regions nearby including this village in Tibet. An initial survey showed that the earthquake rendered more than 70 percent residential houses to become unsafe, and caused hundreds of landslides that disrupted traffic, power and water supplies.
  • #3 -- Twillingate, NL. Hurricane Maria was long gone by Saturday, but its effects could still be seen. Check out this great video of the icebergs being battered by waves that was submitted by Trudy.
  • #2 – Northern Japan. Typhoon Roke pounded the Japanese island of Hokkaido this week. Flooding was made even worse by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami as the tremor caused several areas to shift several metres.
  • #1 -- Toronto, ON. Morning show host Kim MacDonald, producer BJ Stewart and camera operator Dwayne Oud climbed to new heights this week. They braved the EdgeWalk at the CN Tower in Toronto.

Those are videos ten through one for this week. Don't forget to tune in to The Weather Network on TV every Friday morning for our weekly roundup of the top weather videos of the week.
