Hurricane warnings have been issued for parts of the Yucatan peninsula as tropical storm Paula is expected to strengthen to a hurricane on Tuesday.

Paula, the 16th named storm of the busy Atlantic hurricane season, formed on Sunday off the coast of Honduras and was headed for Mexico.

On Sunday, areas including Cancun and Cozumel were under hurricane warnings. Parts of Honduras and Nicaragua were under tropical storm warnings.

Paula is expected to produce strong winds, heavy rain, and dangerous storm surge.
