Turkey washed out by floods

June 8, 2010 — At least one man is dead after heavy rains caused serious flash flooding in Istanbul, Turkey on Tuesday.

Heavy rains ripped through Istanbul, Turkey on Tuesday, killing one man and halting traffic throughout the city.

The local counciil worker was attending a rescue effort when a stream of water broke a levy, dragging him away.

Traffic stood at a stand still as water rushed the roads and turned into gigantic pools. Many people were pulled from their vehicles to safety by rescue workers.

Images captured flood waters gradually rising and then drowning entire streets in an industrial area in the city. Futher flooding could be in store, so authorities have warned residents.
