March 16, 2010 — This week's mild spell in Ontario has many wondering if they should be skiing or golfing this March Break! Well, here's the best part: you can do BOTH.
After a weekend full of rain and strong winds across southern Ontario, the sunshine and mild temperatures have returned -- just in time for March Break!
Many parts of the province were enjoying double-digit temperatures again today. And it looks like these mild highs will be sticking around all week.
So, should you be getting your golf clubs out of storage, or enjoying these last few days on the slopes? Well, both appear to be an option for you and your family.
Yesterday, dozens of golfers were out on the links in Brampton, getting back into the swing of things. The course was a little damp, but most people didn't seem to mind.
Meanwhile, further north, hundreds of families were out skiing and snowboarding yesterday.
'We're certainly trying to get the word out in the GTA that we do have great snow and spring-like conditions at the resort,' says Kelly O'Neil of the Blue Mountain Ski Resort. 'With 90 centimetres of base on the hill, that's more than enough to carry us through March Break.'
Blue Mountain isn't the only resort that's been packed in recent days. Many people were out, carving up the slopes at Mount St. Louis Moonstone and Horseshoe Valley, north of Barrie, yesterday. It was sunny and warm, but there was still plenty of snow. That, however, could change.
'Right now we're predicting we'll get through the week and after that I think that will be the end for us,' says Robert Huter, an official with Mount St. Louis.
And it's a similar story for several outdoor ice rinks. The skating season has ended for most places after the mild temperatures and sunny skies have melted much of the icy surfaces.
