Below Average Spring Flow In Ottawa

March 5, 2010 — Continuing warm temperatures have caused an increase in water levels.

The forecast is out. And the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority is predicting below average spring flow conditions along the Rideau Valley watershed. This means that residents need to be cautious, because floods may occur.

So what's the reason behind it all?Runoff predictions are based on snow conditions, warmer than average temperatures mixed with normal precipitation. All this combined equals increased water levels in streams and ditches.

Anyone living near a watercourse should inform themselves of floods risks and make plans for minimizing flood-related property damages, explains The Authority.
