Heavy Rainfall Increases River Flows

March 14, 2010 — The Grand River watershed is swelling because of the heavy amounts of rain and melting snow over the past 24 hours.

Flooding warnings are in place for low-lying sections of AyrFlows in the Nith River, Ontario.

Rainfall accumulations have ranged from 15 to 35 mm, therefore helping to increase river flows.

Officials expect flows to reach warning levels this morning and continue to rise throughout the day.Residents are being told to take precaution and avoid parking their vehicles in low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, flows in the Grand River through Grand Valley and Conestogo River are at channel capacity right now. Although flooding isn't expected, river levels will remain high into Monday.

Take proper precaution by keeping well away from banks, in case of erosion and fast flowing waters.
