High Winds, Rough Waters Couldn't Stop Jessica

May 15, 2010 — Australian sailor Jessica Watson arrives home after more than 200 days at sea.

Bad weather and ripped sails couldn't stop 16 year old Jessica Watson from sailing around the world.

When the teen arrived at Sydney Harbour, she unofficially became the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe, unassisted in a sail boat.

Jessica was greeted by thousands of well wishers, including her mother and father, under the shadow of the Sydney Opera House.

Jessica's route took her from Australia's eastern shore to the southern tip of Cape Horn.

From there she continued past South Africa, around the island of Tasmania and then home. The trip took 210 days.

Aboard her sailboat, the Ella's Pink Lady, Jessica dealt with harsh weather.

She sailed though rough seas, including some where waves reached 12 metres.

Her homecoming was delayed a couple of hours due to uncooperative conditions just outside Sydney's Harbour.

When she finally planted her feet on dry land, Jessica immediately got a big hug from her biggest fans - Mom and Dad.
