Is there such a thing as being too prepared? Well, according to emergency officials, it can never hurt to be well-equipped for extreme weather.

Things like smoke detectors are great to have in one's home. But now, officials are stressing the importance of having weather radios in your house, as well.

Recently, parts of the United States have been gripped by tornadoes. Canada, too, sees its share of tornadoes every year. It is especially during such turbulent times, that officials hope weather radios will come in handy.

When the potential of severe weather strikes, people can tune in to hear updates and act accordingly. It is anticipated that countless lives will be saved with this technology.

A basic weather radio can cost around $30.
