January 9, 2011 — Drivers encountered blowing snow on the Gardiner Expressway on Friday night, and now there is another obstacle on the road.

The westbound Gardiner is closed from Saturday night until Sunday morning. The closure is from Spadina to Humber River, beginning Saturday at 11 p.m., and ending Sunday at 9 a.m.

Unlike last night, this delay isn't to blame on the weather. The Gardiner is closing for work on an ongoing bridge reconstruction project.

But as drivers detour, they will still see signs that 17 cm of snow fell in Toronto this weekend.

“Drivers may have to deal with delays caused by snow clearing trucks, but the roads in Toronto are so much better than they were early Saturday,” says Dayna Vettese, a meteorologist at The Weather Network.
