February 19, 2010 — Ontario's biggest winter festival will draw to a close this Sunday. Read below for some of the exciting events this weekend, or click the video on the left for a look at some Rideau Canal memories.
It's one of those events that makes the cold days of winter feel a little warmer.
Ontario's biggest festival of the season, Winterlude, will wrap up this weekend in Ottawa. Hundreds of thousands of people have travelled to the Nation's capital this month to enjoy the concerts, the snow slides and the ice sculpting.
Of course, there's also the famous Rideau Canal skateway.
'It is a world class icon in the National Capital region and we are quite proud of the skateway and what it has become,' says Marc Corriveau of the National Capital Commission.
In addition to lacing up and skating on the canal, there are plenty of things to do with your family this weekend.
You can participate in all kinds of Winter Games and Snow Volleyball competitions. Make sure you catch the Public Ice-Carving Challenge on Saturday. And if you're heading out in the evenings, you can watch movies on a Giant Snow Screen.
We also recommend the tasty beavertails!
We're currently calling for temperatures below freezing in Ottawa this weekend, so make sure you bundle up! Tune into our National Forecast on TV for all the latest details. It comes up at the top and bottom of every hour.
Have a great weekend!
